Albania’s PPI down 0.2% y/y in 1Q19

Albania’s Producer Price Index (PPI) dropped to 103.1 in the first quarter of 2019, down by 0.2% y/y, statistics institute Instat said on June 7. The index was down by the same amount compared to the fourth quarter of 2018. 

The PPI in the key manufacturing sector was down by 0.7% y/y during the quarter, with the steepest drops in prices for manufacture of food products (down 1.9%), manufacture of non-metallic mineral products (0.5%) and metallurgy (0.2%).

In the mining and quarrying sector, the PPI decreased by 0.1% compared with the first quarter 2018, which included a 1.3% fall in prices in the extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas, and auxiliary services segment. 

Compared with the fourth quarter 2018, the biggest decrease was in the mining and quarrying segment, where prices fell by 1.7%, followed by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (down 0.4%). 

Meanwhile, the PPI for manufacturing was up by 0.1%, led by rises in prices for manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (up 0.9%), followed by manufacture of leathers and leather products (0.8%) and manufacture of wearing apparel (1.0%).

The PPI for the domestic market was up 0.2% in 1Q19, while it remained flat in monthly terms. 

The export price index fell by 1.6% y/y, and 1.0% m/m.
