The Belmedpreparaty pharmaceutical company has started mass production of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus (COVID-19), BelTA reports.

“The bottling of first commercial batches of the Sputnik V vaccine from semi-finished products of Russia's pharmaceutical company Generium, which is part of Pharmstandard, has begun. All the necessary preparatory work has been completed,” the company said in a press release.

According to Belmedpreparaty director-general Sergei Belyayev, the vaccine can be used to inoculate the general public starting from late April, after quality control findings are received. There are plans to produce up to 500,000 doses every month.

In related news, Russia has started production of its third vaccine against the coronavirus, CoviVac, on the premises of the Chumakov centre, the Science and Higher Education Ministry said on March 25 as cited by Tass.

The vaccine was registered in February, and 775,000 doses can be produced in March-June, and no less than 10mn in 2021.

Russian company Nanolek could become an industrial partner of the Chumakov centre in the vaccine production, Science and Higher Education Minister Valery Falkov said. "This is Nanolek," Falkov said referring to negotiations between the entities.
