A car rammed into a group of student protesters in Belgrade on January 16, seriously injuring a female student.

The injured student was part of a group of demonstrators protesting against the government and showing solidarity with victims of the November 1 tragedy in Novi Sad. The protest expanded after the incident, as students called on citizens to join their efforts to denounce violence and ensure such incidents would not recur.

The driver responsible for hitting the student has been located by authorities. Reports indicate that the driver failed to stop after striking the protester, who lay motionless on the road for several minutes before emergency services arrived.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The collapse of a canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024, which claimed the lives of 15 people, has led to the emergence of a new protest movement in Serbia.

Tens of thousands of people, including opposition politicians, students and farmers, have taken to the streets of Belgrade and other cities to demand accountability for the tragedy and express broader dissatisfaction with the government.

University students have staged regular blockades, halting traffic on major streets in Belgrade and other cities. Protests have occasionally turned violent.

In December, a car rammed into protesters during a protest in central Belgrade, injuring four members of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
