Diana Sosoaca, a recently elected far-right member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Romania, has proposed bringing in a priest to sanctify the European Parliament and rid it of “devils”, reported Politico. 

While far-right parties were not among the winning parties in the recent European Parliament elections in Southeast Europe, they continued a creeping success that has turned them into prominent opposition parties in both Bulgaria and Romania, and the junior ruling party in Croatia. 

Sosoaca is the leader of Romania's far-right S.O.S. Romania party, a small party overshadowed by the more successful Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). However, her outspoken style has made her notorious within Romania, where she served in the parliament before her election as an MEP in June.

"Just like in the Romanian parliament, here the devils meet," Sosoaca told reporters earlier this week, according to Politico.

"I will bring a priest to consecrate the offices and wherever else I can. It is my right to religion, to the expression of my religious faith," she added.

On her first day in the Parliament, Sosoaca donned traditional Romanian folk attire and brought myrrh and an icon of St. Paraskeva, a 10th-century Balkan saint, into the building. 

Earlier in the week, Sosoaca broadcast a Facebook live video during the vote for the Parliament's presidency, showing herself crossing out the names of Roberta Metsola — who was re-elected to the position — as well as her opponent Irene Montero. 

She wrote "NEVER FOR UKRAINE, NEVER FOR LGBT, NEVER FOR THE EU DICTATORSHIP" on her ballot, and went on to slam the EU’s support for Ukraine in her inaugural speech to the European Parliament.

Sosoaca's party, which has two MEPs, has not been accepted as a member of the Europe of Sovereign Nations, despite sharing a similar ideology to its members, as it was deemed to be anti-Hungarian.
