A shooting at Al-Israa University College in Baghdad left six people injured on January 5 after a student opened fire on campus, Iraqi authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Ali Mohammed Jabr Al-Saadi, was arrested following the attack which began around noon at the college in District 103, according to Iraq's Ministry of Interior.

CCTV footage obtained by local media showed the gunman walking through the campus gate before shooting a security guard and then firing at fleeing students in the courtyard.

The suspect was eventually overpowered by security personnel and students as he attempted to escape in a second video.

"A student from Al-Israa University College in Baghdad was arrested after shooting a college security guard and two students during an altercation," the ministry said in a statement, adding that all those injured were in stable condition after being transported to hospital.

The suspect, born in 2005 and a resident of the Al-Ubaidi area, was unemployed, officials said. The shooting reportedly stemmed from a dispute between Al-Saadi and several individuals on campus.

Social media videos captured students fleeing amid gunfire, with witnesses describing an altercation that escalated into violence. Initially, five people were reported injured, with a sixth victim identified later.

The Baghdad Al-Rusafa Police Command is investigating the incident, with authorities pledging appropriate legal action will be taken.
