Pune-based Suzlon Group, a renewable energy solutions provider, has secured India’s largest wind energy order, totalling 1.17 GW, from NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewables arm of state-owned energy conglomerate NTPC Limited, the company announced in a stock exchange filing on September 9.

Suzlon will install 370 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of the S144 model, each with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. These turbines will be deployed at two projects of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL) and one project of IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. (a group company of NGEL) in Gujarat. This win brings Suzlon’s cumulative order book close to 5 GW as of September 2024.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, said, “This landmark collaboration reaffirms our commitment to accelerating India’s renewable energy transition. Notably, this marks our first direct wind energy order from NGEL, signalling Suzlon’s triumphant return to the PSU customer segment.”

“Upon completion, it will set a new benchmark for future projects, substantially contributing to India’s energy self-sufficiency, economic prosperity, and NGEL’s ambitious target of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032,” Tanti added.

As part of the deal, Suzlon will provide the wind turbines and execute the project, as well as undertake operations and maintenance services post-commissioning.

With 20.8 GW of installed wind energy capacity across 17 countries, Suzlon is India’s leading wind energy service provider, managing over 14.8 GW of assets. The group also has 6 GW of capacity installed outside India, led by its 2 MW and 3 MW turbine series.
