Uzbekistan has introduced the National Programme of Action for the Digitalisation of Agriculture.

Aimed at modernising the country's agrifood system, the programme is the culmination of a year-long technical assistance project run by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

The Tashkent launch event gathered both national and international stakeholders to discuss strategy in transforming the Uzbek agrifood sector.

Daniela Di Gianantonio, FAO head of digital agriculture, emphasised the programme's role, stating: "This Programme serves as a strategic guide to transform the country's agrifood system into a modern, competitive, sustainable, and resilient sector."

The gathering celebrated achievements under the FAO Digital Villages Initiative.

Developed in response to a request from the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture, the digitalisation programme is part of FAO's technical cooperation programme titled, "Preparing the grounds for the digital transformation of agriculture".

The initiative is to build on FAO digitalisation progress achieved to date in Uzbekistan, including with Digital Villages, geospatial labs, smart sensors, the Food Price Monitoring Tool, a decision-support system for Land Degradation Neutrality and digital forest inventory.
