Some 876 EVs were imported in April alone.
China remained by far the main supplier, exporting 2,278 EVs to Uzbekistan since the beginning of the year, while 202 were shipped from Hong Kong. Of the remaining 64, half were imported from Germany, a quarter came from the UAE, nine were sourced from South Korea and four from the US.
EVs imported into Uzbekistan are exempt from customs duty, excise duty and transport charges. In addition, taxi drivers who drive an EV or hybrid car are exempt from licence fees until 2030.
At the urging of local businesses, EV infrastructure is being rolled out. At the beginning of 2023, incentives for entrepreneurs installing EV charging stations were introduced.
In December, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a state support programme for EV and hybrid manufacturers.
