EC refers Poland to court for delay on renewable energy rules.

The European Commission is referring Poland (and Cyprus) to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to fully transpose EU's Renewable Energy Directive, according to the Commission's press release. The Directive had to be transposed by the member states by Dec 5 of 2010. For Poland, the Commission proposes a daily penalty of EUR 133,228.80. The final amount of the daily penalties will be decided by the Court. The EU has committed itself to reach a 20% share of renewable energy in final energy consumption and to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20% as compared to 1990 levels by 2020. The Renewable Energy Directive includes key provisions for achieving these objectives.
