Foreign minister: Poland may adopt euro during 2015-2019 parliamentary term.

Poland could adopt the euro during Poland's parliament's next term of office (i.e. 2015-2019), according to minister of foreign affairs Radoslaw Sikorski. However, he stressed that Poland would only want to join the euro-zone provided that it undergoes reforms and is safe. During his foreign policy speech in parliament, Sikorski reiterated that taking on the euro is in Poland's strategic interest. According to recent official statements, the Polish government will now focus on fulfilling the so-called Maastricht criteria, required from bidders to the euro-zone, and the decision on the date of the euro adoption should be made only after the 2015 parliamentary and presidential elections. When Poland joined the European Union in 2004, it obliged itself to take on the euro, but with no time restraints.
