Uzbekistan recorded a total per capita income of UZS20mn ($1,600) in 2023. The real growth rate was 2.4%. This is a notable slowdown compared to the 7.3% growth rate in 2022, as reported by the Statistics Agency.

Tashkent, the capital, registered the highest per capita income at UZS44.4mn ($3,600). Conversely, Karakalpakstan noted the lowest at UZS14.5mn. These figures point to significant regional disparities in income across Uzbekistan.

In five regions, real per capita income experienced a decline, indicating a decrease in average wealth. The affected regions include Khorezm, Surkhandarya, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Namangan. Khorezm witnessed the most substantial drop at 6.4%.

The total income of the Uzbek population at the end of 2023 amounted to UZS728.8 trillion ($58.9bn). This reflects a nominal growth of 15% and a real growth of 4.6%. The average per capita nominal total income was notably higher in Tashkent, Navoi region, Bukhara region, Tashkent region, and Khorezm region. These regions recorded incomes well above the national average. The Republic of Karakalpakstan, along with Namangan and Fergana regions, logged the lowest figures.

The highest rates of real growth in per capita total income were observed in Tashkent city (7.6%), Navoi region (5.7%), and Syrdarya and Andijan regions (both 4.4%). Jizzakh region also showed a healthy growth rate of 4.3%.

The increase in total income of the population is largely attributed to significant changes in income from self-employment, which accounts for 34.3%, income of employees at 29.7%, and income from transfers at 26.7%.

The same report noted that the growth of state budget revenues slowed markedly in 2023. Additionally, Uzbekistan’s GDP grew by 6% last year, reaching $90.8bn. The GDP per capita stood at UZS29.3mn, equivalent to $2,500.
