Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led discussions with top executives from global semiconductor companies during a roundtable held at his official residence, according to a press release by India’s Press Information Bureau.
At the meeting, Modi emphasised the pivotal role of semiconductors in shaping the future, not only for businesses but also for India’s technological advancement. He noted that as the world moves further into a technology-driven era, semiconductors will underpin daily essentials.
Stressing the importance of democracy combined with technology, Modi said this could serve the global welfare, with India committed to playing a responsible role in the semiconductor sector. The Prime Minister outlined several pillars crucial for growth, including infrastructure development, investment in manufacturing, and talent enhancement. He highlighted India’s potential to become a reliable partner in a diversified semiconductor supply chain, backed by a skilled workforce focused on producing globally competitive products.
In response, executives lauded India's favourable environment for semiconductor growth. Micron’s CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra, said Modi’s vision for semiconductor manufacturing is perfectly timed as artificial intelligence (AI) expands. Industry leaders pointed to India's stability amid global geopolitical challenges, with NXP’s Kurt Sievers commending the government’s foresight in building a robust semiconductor ecosystem. India's government, reaffirmed by Modi, promises to maintain a stable, predictable policy environment and support the industry through initiatives like “Make In India” and “Make for the World.”
