Kosovo bans import of potatoes and honey from North Macedonia

Kosovo has banned the import of two products from North Macedonia as a reciprocal measure, the trade minister announced on August 16.

The ban concerns imports of potatoes and honey. The move was taken after North Macedonia introduced tariffs on imports of fish and roe from Kosovo in June this year.

Kosovo’s Trade and Industry Minister Endrit Shala stated that he had filed a complaint to the CEFTA secretariat and sent a letter to the Macedonian economy minister, but that they had not responded.

"Two months have passed and we have no answer, so I have a duty to protect the Kosovan businesses and our products and take other legal action, in accordance with the law,” Shala said in a Facebook post.

On the other hand, North Macedonia’s economy ministry underlined that the Food Agency has been trying to overcome the problem, but that it has not received needed information from Kosovo on fish health status.

In November 2018 Kosovo imposed 100% tariffs on import of products from Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina in a politically motivated move.
