The EU harmonised inflation index (HICP) accelerated to 3.9% y/y in October, up from 3.7% y/y in the previous month, statistical office (MONSTAT) data showed. Prices of alcohol and tobacco increased the most - by 15.2% y/y followed by health services, transport and food and beverages prices, which rose by 13.6% y/y, 7.5% y/y and 5% y/y, respectively. Prices of furnishing and household equipment on the other hand moved in the opposite direction - down by 0.1% y/y. Education also cost less as compared to a year ago - by 0.5% y/y. On a monthly basis prices went up by 0.4%, driven mainly by more expensive health and food compared to September. The HICP since the beginning of the year has reached 3.3%, up from 2.8% recorded a month ago . The highest was the increase in the administrative inflation (up 7% since the start of the year), followed by energy (4.1%) and products (3.7%). |
