Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted violently on the evening of March 20, sending local residents into a panic. People fled their homes, rushing into the streets in search of safety, Kompas.com reported.

Rosalia Oca, a 35-year-old resident of Hokeng Jaya in Wulanggitang District, described the terrifying scene. “The roof, windows, and doors of our house shook. We were extremely panicked and scared,” she said. She noted that this eruption was significantly more intense than previous ones.

Delfis Henakin, 30, shared a similar experience. He and his relatives were at home in Hokeng Jaya when they heard a massive explosion. “Everyone panicked. We ran to Boru Village, and some even fled to the border between East Flores and Sikka,” he recounted.

In Nurabelen Village, Ilebura District, residents also scrambled to safety, rushing to the village office as volcanic ash and gravel rained down. The same chaos unfolded in Larantuka City, where the eruption’s impact was also felt.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as Mount Lewotobi continues to show heightened activity.
