Unemployment in Slovakia continued to drop for the fourth consecutive month down to 3.78% in May. It is a drop of 0.04 percentage points on the April level and a 0.12 pp drop year-on-year.

There were 165,420 job applicants registered with the country’s labour office, which is the second lowest figure of job applicants in Slovakia’s history after May 2019.

“The PDU indicator has set a new minimum. It reached the lowest value since January 2023, when the [labour] resort began officially using it,” Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, Erik Tomas, commented on the current methodological tool his resort uses to calculate the unemployment level.

There were 94,507 available jobs in May and 45,178 of the available jobs were suitable for graduates.

The May figures correspond to the data from Slovakia’s statistical office, which reported earlier this month that the number of people without jobs is the lowest in thirty years. There were 154,700 persons without work in the first quarter of this year, and the figure has dropped for the eleventh consecutive quarter.
