Turkish police chased and arrested an 18-year-old who on August 12 livestreamed his actions on social media as he stabbed five people. His rampage could be seen on social media platform X via a camera attached to the attacker’s bulletproof vest.

HaberTurk and other Turkish media reported that the assailant was believed to have been influenced by a video game.

The victims were attacked by the suspect, identified as Arda K., as they relaxed in a tea garden after prayers at a nearby mosque in Eskisehir in northwest Turkey.

The teenager, who also wore a helmet, a mask and goggles during the attack and carried an axe strapped to his waist that he did not appear to use, was detained following a police pursuit, according to the governor’s office of Eskisehir.

The five victims were hospitalised. Two were in serious condition, according to the state-run news service Anadolu Agency.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said an investigation into the incident had begun.

Some news sites claimed the attacker wore a “black sun,” a Nazi motif made up of several swastikas, on his chest.

The assailant did not shout or express any motivation for his actions, daily Cumhuriyet reported. His appearance indicated he was “influenced by war games”, it said.
