Yemen's Houthi armed forces claimed a “successful” ballistic missile strike on Israel's Nevatim air base on December 28, while simultaneously facing renewed US and British airstrikes on multiple targets across the country, local SABA reported.

The Houthi military said it launched a "Palestine-2" hypersonic missile at the Israeli base in the Negev desert, though Israel has not confirmed any impact.

The strike was described as part of the group's "fifth phase" of operations supporting Palestinians in Gaza and part of a wider grouping of Iranian-backed groups in the region targeting Israel.

Hours earlier, US and British warplanes conducted strikes in Yemen's Hajjah province, targeting the Bahis area in the Midi district.

These attacks followed Friday's bombardment of Sanaa's Ma'een District and Thursday's strikes on the capital's international airport that killed six people, according to local officials.

The intensifying military exchanges highlight the widening regional impact of the Gaza war, with Yemen's Houthi forces vowing to continue attacks on Israel and maritime targets until the Gaza offensive ends.

"Yemen's military operations against Israel will escalate, not decline," senior Houthi official Nasr al-Din Amer said in a statement.

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Sanaa on December 27 to demonstrate against the US-UK strikes and show solidarity with Palestinians.

The Houthis have positioned their campaign as part of a broader resistance to Israel's Gaza operation, which they say has killed more than 27,000 Palestinians.

The United States and Britain formed a military coalition in December to counter what they describe as threats to global commerce in the Red Sea, where Houthi attacks have disrupted shipping lanes crucial to international trade.

The Houthis maintain their targets are exclusively vessels connected to Israel.

Hajjah province, where the US-UK strikes occurred, lies 123 kilometres northwest of Sanaa, strategically positioned between Amran province and the Red Sea coast.

The location's proximity to key maritime routes has made it a focal point in the ongoing conflict.
