The number of women who have started their own business in Uzbekistan has approximately doubled to more than 200,000 in the past five years, a meeting held at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament of Uzbekistan) heard.
During the third meeting of female members of parliament of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TurkPA) held on June 5, delegates from various member states congregated to deliberate on the role of women in driving economic growth and entrepreneurship across TurkPA nations.
Representatives from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Northern Cyprus were in attendance.
Gulnara Marufova, a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and part of Uzbekistan's delegation, stressed progressive reforms spearheaded by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at providing robust support for women in business endeavours.
Women now constitute 46% of the workforce in Uzbekistan’s economic and industrial sectors.
The gathering of female parliamentarians endorsed a series of resolutions and recommendations aimed at advancing women's empowerment.
The group will convene again in Kazakhstan in 2025.
