Global pop icon Madonna has expressed solidarity with the ongoing student protests across Serbia, sharing a message on Instagram in support of demonstrators.

On February 2, Madonna posted a video clip showing thousands of protesters in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. "What the media isn't reporting is that we are witnessing one of the largest student movements since 1968," Madonna wrote.

The protests, initially sparked in response to the tragic deaths of 15 people following a roof collapse at a Novi Sad train station in November, have mushroomed into a broader movement against corruption and government inefficiency.

Students across the country have led the charge, shutting down nearly every university and initiating 24-hour blockades of busy junctions and bridges.

Madonna’s post, which featured aerial images of the demonstrations, highlighted the widespread support the protests have garnered, including from professors and educators who have joined the movement. "Professors and teachers have joined students in their protests, and the government is threatening them with job losses," the post reads.

The protests have sparked a political crisis in Serbia, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

Madonna, known for her advocacy on social and political issues, urged her followers to spread awareness of the situation, writing, “We must make this situation go viral and support the students and people of Serbia. We stand with Serbia.”

The post was accompanied by Madonna’s iconic 1989 hit "Like a Prayer".
