The charge d'affaires of the Russian embassy in Bucharest was summoned on July 25 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the identification in Tulcea County of some fragments of a drone used by the Russian armed forces in attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure, Romania’s foreign ministry (MAE) announced.

Romania’s defence ministry (MApN) confirmed on July 25 that it found debris from a Russian Gheran1/2 drone near the village of Plauru, in Tulcea County.

The representative of the Romanian MAE conveyed the protest of the Romanian authorities and condemned the repeated attacks by Russian forces on Ukrainian civil infrastructure, requesting their immediate cessation.

The Romanian official recalled that targeting civilian targets constitutes a war crime.

He emphasised the irresponsible nature of the military strikes, including near Romania's border, which endanger national security.

On a broader level, the Romanian foreign ministry highlighted the sole responsibility of the Russian Federation, as a result of the aggression against Ukraine, for the serious deterioration of the security environment in the Black Sea.

In related news, Nato reacted officially for the first time after two nights of intense drone attacks on Ukraine, resulting in drone parts hitting Romanian territory.

There was no indication that Russian drone debris found in Romania was evidence of an intentional attack on the Nato territory, but it pointed to ‘irresponsible and potentially dangerous’ actions, an alliance spokesperson has said.

"While Nato has no information indicating any intentional attack by Russia against Allied territory, these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous," the spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson added that Nato had increased its presence in the Black Sea region in recent days.
