Hungarian logistics company Waberer's is building a 20,000-sqm logistics centre in one of the most dynamic regions in eastern Hungary to serve the needs of automotive suppliers, the Budapest-listed group announced on the bourse’s website on January 31.

The company released a statement after it purchased the 57,000-sqm lot in an industrial park in Debrecen, close to the Romanian border.

The project is part of its 2027 strategy to expand its national reach with modern warehouse complexes. The latest development in "one of the most dynamic regions" of the country will meet the logistics needs of major automotive companies and suppliers and serve its existing customers in eastern Hungary.

The company did not disclose the size of the investment, which is still in its early phase of planning, nor the size of the state grant. 

The completion of a 47,000-sqm logistics complex close to Budapest is expected later this year.

Waberer’s is one of the leaders in international full truckload (FTL) transportation in Europe and a market leader in Hungary in the field of domestic freight and complex logistics services. It currently has around 250,000 sqm of modern warehouse space, making it the largest logistics capacity in the region.

The company strives to become the number one complex logistics service provider in the CEE region by 2027. The strategy aims to boost warehouse capacity and establishment of regional centres, and increase high-value-added services, the entrance to specialised logistics segments.

Waberer’s aims to play a role in serving the needs of companies in automotive and electric battery manufacturing.

Debrecen, Hungary’s second-largest city, is one of the fastest-growing economic hubs. CATL is building Europe’s largest EV battery factory from €7.4bn in the city, not far from BMW’s new electric vehicle production plant.

South Korea’s EcoPro is building a HUF280bn (€730) cathode plant, and Chinese EV battery maker Ningbo Zhenyu Technology is also planning to set up a battery parts factory in the city.
