Fortis Energy and PowerChina have signed an agreement to cooperate on the development of wind and solar energy projects in Serbia and the wider region, Fortis announced on its LinkedIn page.

The partnership aims to develop projects with a combined capacity of over 850 MW. According to Fortis Energy, this agreement represents a significant advancement in renewable energy initiatives, tapping into the abundant wind and solar energy potential of Southeast Europe.

"We're thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Fortis Energy and Powerchina International Group Limited. This August, we signed a Framework Agreement to collaborate on the development and construction of wind and solar power projects across Serbia and Southeast Europe. This alliance marks a major milestone in the region's energy transition, harnessing the vast potential of renewable energy," the company's LinkedIn post reads.

Based in Belgrade, Fortis Energy serves as the Eastern European branch of Fortis Energy Türkiye. The company has over 250 MW of installed capacity across Turkey and North Macedonia, including solar and biogas power plants.

Fortis Energy is actively involved in multiple high-profile projects in Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.

In Serbia alone, Fortis Energy is developing wind farms with a total capacity of 509 MW and solar projects with a capacity of 387 MWp. The company recently announced it had obtained preliminary permits for three wind projects totalling 509.4 MW in Serbia.

In late July, Fortis Energy announced the acquisition of a 180-MW solar project equipped with a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Sremska Mitrovica. The company expects this project to become one of the largest solar power plants and energy storage systems in Southeast Europe.

The three wind farms in Jagodina, Petrovac and Vranje are anticipated to be completed by 2026. Fortis Energy also revealed in May that it was in the final stages of acquiring two biogas power plants in Pancevo, near the capital Belgrade.

PowerChina International Group Limited, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, provides services including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), as well as financing and investment services.
