Kazakh entrepreneur and philanthropist Timur Turlov has signed an exclusive licensing partnership with Tatler Asia as the media company looks to expand in Central Asia and the Turkic world. Tatler will launch four new editions of its magazine in Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan.
Turlov, who is also the founder and CEO of Freedom Holding Corp. (FRHC), the Nasdaq-listed diversified financial services company headquartered in Almaty, understands the importance of this expansion in positioning Kazakhstan as a cultural and creative hub in the region.
"We are very proud that Tatler, a publication with one of the most distinguished legacies in the global magazine industry, has specifically chosen our team and Kazakhstan. This decision undoubtedly recognizes the exceptional talents of the people of Kazakhstan, who have demonstrated their professionalism and readiness to lead in the media sphere of the Turkic region," Timur Turlov commented.
The first issue of Tatler Kazakhstan will be published in December 2024, while Tatler Türkiye, Tatler Azerbaijan, and Tatler Uzbekistan are expected to be published in 2025. The Kazakh print edition will be available in both Kazakh and Russian. It will also be available as a digital edition, with a presence on social media channels and YouTube.
Turlov will serve as chairman of the supervisory board of the new company, which will be managed under Timur Turlov Private Holding Ltd.
"Our partnership marks a significant milestone in the history of Tatler Asia and our expansion across the continent," said Michel Lamunière, chairman & CEO of Tatler Asia.
The partnership with Tatler was announced following Freedom Holding's strong first-quarter results. The company continued its global expansion and reported revenues of $451 million, an increase of 43% over the same period last year. The company also increased its investment in the growth and development of its fintech ecosystem by 77% to a total of $409 million, while delivering a net profit of $34 million.
The new Tatler magazines will engage with influential communities in the regions and celebrate the cultural and creative achievements of the new countries. Timur Turlov has always been committed to supporting charitable activities, including education and sport in Kazakhstan. He wants to inspire and encourage other successful and wealthy individuals to follow his example and not be afraid to talk about the good deeds so that others can follow suit. Last year Freedom Holding spent up to KZT 30 billion ($57 million) on social and humanitarian initiatives.
Tatler Asia was founded in 1977 and is already present in nine Asian markets, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Macau, mainland China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
