Kosovo’s inflation eases to 2.2% y/y in July

The overall harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) inflation in Kosovo (chart) slowed down to 2.2% y/y in July from 2.4% y/y in June, according to the statistics office. This is the lowest reading since February.

Flight tickets and fuel prices pushed up inflation particularly, while the more affordable vegetables had the opposite effect.

The annual inflation was mainly driven by the increase in consumer prices of the groups and subgroups of flight tickets (+22.0% y/y); coffee, tea and cocoa (+7.7% y/y); fish (+7.7% y/y); alcoholic beverages (+7.2% y/y); fruits (+6.3% y/y); and, solid fuels, firewood, pellets, similar (6.0%).

Meanwhile, a drop in prices was observed in the groups of vegetables (-5.2% y/y) with an impact of -0.2 percentage points.

Monthly inflation was 0.3% m/m in July 2024, particularly due to the increase in the prices of the subgroups: airline tickets (8.7% m/m); fuels and lubricants for personal transport (2.9% m/m); electricity (2.3% m/m); and, fruits(1.8%%).

Meanwhile, a drop in the prices of vegetables (-5.7% m/m) was observed.
