"Please return home. Police are with you," rioters attacking Mirpur and Jatrabari police stations in Dhaka were told on Monday evening, 5 August, as the police resorted to firing blanks to disperse mobs attempting to destroy a police box.

In a report from the nation’s Dhaka Tribune, the attack on the police station was listed as just one example of continued confusion in the city after the long-time prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, fled the country, headed first to India and later to the UK, according to sources.

Elsewhere, a largely peaceful mob was seen looting official buildings once occupied by Hasina.

News was also coming in that the country’s leading Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport had been order closed by officials. Reports say that all outbound and inbound flights had been either suspended or rerouted from 4:45pm local time on August 5; information confirmed by the Dhaka Tribune with airport Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam.

The Bangladeshi armed forces, meanwhile, have currently taken over control of the country, with General Waker-Uz-Zaman saying an interim government would be formed to run the country. He went on to tell the general populace that their demands will be met and that they should not be disheartened, according to reports from Dhaka.
