Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of former US President Donald Trump and executive vice president of the Trump Organisation, made an unexpected visit to Belgrade on September 23, according to local media. The visit included a private dinner with a select group of prominent Serbian business figures.

Serbian news agency N1 reported that the dinner, held in a central Belgrade hotel, was attended by owners of construction companies, banks, and other business leaders. Notably, no representatives from the Serbian government were present.

This is not the first time the Trump family has shown interest in Serbia. Jared Kushner, Trump Jr.'s brother-in-law and a senior adviser during the Trump administration, previously signed a deal to redevelop the Yugoslav General Staff building in Belgrade, which was destroyed by Nato airstrikes in 1999.

Elsewhere in the Western Balkans, Kushner is also eyeing a development on Albania's Sazan Island. Meanwhile, North Macedonia's President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received a delegation of executives from the Trump Media & Technology Group and other business figures associated with the former US president in June. 

Trump Jr., who has been involved in various international ventures through the Trump Organisation, stressed his ties to Eastern Europe during the dinner, recalling his Czech heritage through his mother. "I speak Czech fluently," he boasted, adding that he was pleased to be back in a region where, in his view, "the macho culture is still alive."

"In America, they would put me in prison for saying this, but there they would put me in prison for a lot of things," Trump joked. Following the dinner, he departed for Bucharest, where Romanian media reported that a similar business event is planned.

The US embassy in Belgrade declined to comment.
