The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) this week launched the second phase of a public awareness campaign designed to inform users about safe and responsible use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The message – spread under the title of ‘Your Safety is Our Priority’ – has been distributed across the UAE, coinciding with the start of the religious holiday of Ramadan due to increased use of the fuel in preparation for feasts.

Part of the second phase has also reminded users of shared responsibility and collaboration with government and private stakeholders to allow for a safe environment in Abu Dhabi.

Ahmed Alsayed Mohamed Alsheebani, the DoE’s acting regulatory affairs petroleum product sector executive director, said regarding the policy: “The LPG Safety Campaign is a significant step in promoting safety practices within the community, particularly given the heightened gas usage during the holy month of Ramadan.” He continued: “We place considerable emphasis on delivering comprehensive awareness workshops and training programmes for all the campaign's target audiences, as we understand that ongoing education and training are key to mitigating risks associated with gas utilisation”.

The safety campaign has mainly targeted domestic staff and labourers as well as businesses such as restaurants and cafeterias, according to the DoE.

The organisation’s Acting Director General of Regulatory Affairs Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi highlighted that the DoE firmly believed in the safety of the community: “With this campaign, our goal is to ensure that all organisations and individuals adhere to safety protocols and implement the required standards and conditions”.

He continued to note that these efforts would require collaboration to prevent accidents or potential hazards, and concluded that the DoE aimed primarily to “uphold standards [that] helped build a more secure society, promoting the long-term sustainability of the sector as a whole.”
