A KFC restaurant in the east of Baghdad was targeted with a small explosive device late on May 25, Shafaq reported. 

The attack on the American fast-food chain is the first in recent memory, with attacks usually occurring in markets and other business locations by elements of the Islamic State (IS) and other insurgent groups. 

The famous chicken fast food chain was targeted with an explosive device placed in front of the KFC restaurant on Palestine Street, causing material damage but no significant injuries. It is the latest targeting of American brands in the region, following a growing boycott campaign of brands operating in Israel. 

Later, the Baghdad Operations Command explained in a statement on May 26, “Two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle threw a homemade explosive device,” with police unable to identify the people.  

According to the statement, the exits to the area were immediately closed. 

A joint team from the Bab al-Sheikh Police Department and Baghdad's Sixth Emergency Regiment, with intelligence support, went to the scene of the incident. 

Their identities were discovered after reviewing surveillance camera footage and tracking the suspects. 

The suspects were located and later arrested. The motorcycle and guns they had were seized and handed over to a local police station for further legal action. Elsewhere in the Iraqi capital, three hand grenades were deactivated by security services in a second incident. 

Meanwhile, a force from the National Security Service in Basra Governorate was able to free a girl who had been kidnapped four months ago and arrest the gang that kidnapped her.
