Slovak unemployment slightly dropped to 3.72% in March, down by 0.07 percentage point from February and by 0.16 pp from March 2024, while the number of unemployed persons was the lowest on record since 1993.

“Labour, social affairs and family offices (ÚPSVR) registered 162,030 job applicants at the end of the last month, which is the lowest since the split up of Czechoslovakia at the beginning of the nineties of the last century,” ÚPSVR highlighted in a press release.

“Only four months have passed, and we have here another historical minimum,” added Erik Tomáš (Hlas), Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, recalling that the previous minimum was registered at the end of October.

There were traditionally considerable differences in the unemployment levels between the western and eastern parts of Slovakia. The lowest unemployment level was in the capital Bratislava region (2.42%), while the highest was in the Prešov region (5.77%) in the east of the country.

The number of job openings was 102,697, with nearly half of these (45,509) in the Bratislava region, while the Prešov region had the lowest number of job openings (2,886).
