Tourism record set as almost one million hot air balloon passengers take to sky in Turkey during 2024

The number of hot air balloon passengers in Turkey jumped by 25% y/y to a record 933,195 in 2024 from 747,203 in 2023, according to data from the country’s civil aviation directorate SHGM.

Some 43,283 balloon flights took place.

By end-2024, 71 companies, up from 67 a year previously, were operating 441 balloons, up from 431 at end-2023.

Balloon flights are held in seven regions: 

  • Cappadocia and Cat in Nevsehir province,

  • Pamukkale in Denizli,

  • Soganli in Kayseri,

  • Ihlara Valley in Aksaray,

  • the Phrygian Valleys in Afyonkarahisar and

  • Aspendos in Antalya.
