Toyota Material Handling Europe has entered into a partnership with Gideon, a tech firm based in Zagreb that specialises in cutting-edge software for the localisation and management of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

The partnership aims to enhance automation in warehouse and manufacturing environments by integrating Gideon's advanced AMR technology into Toyota's global operations.

Gideon said in a press release that Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), including Toyota Material Handling Group and Toyota Automated Logistics Group, and Gideon, have "signed an investment agreement with immediate effect". The Croatian tech company did not specify the size of the investment.

The partnership and investment will give TICO the opportunity to streamline automated vehicle systems by standardising processes, shortening deployment times, and enhancing flexibility, adaptability and scalability.

Gideon develops technologies for automating complex material handling tasks. Through the partnership, Gideon will gain access to Toyota's manufacturing expertise and global service network, which is expected to support its growth and development.

"Toyota's established practices in manufacturing, combined with Gideon's technology, offer a new approach to automation in the sector," said Josip Ćesić, CEO of Gideon.

“Gideon have developed an impressive software stack and vision modules, combining flexible, intelligent autonomous behaviour with specific logistics application focus and user-friendliness that will add value to our customers over the coming years," said Patric Hed, SVP logistics solutions at Toyota Material Handling Europe.

For Toyota, the investment aligns with its broader goals of enhancing the flexibility and standardisation of its automated vehicle systems. TICO’s software house, T-Hive, will manage the integration of Gideon's technology into its global automated vehicle portfolio.

“TICO already holds a strong position in automated vehicles, but this strategic investment underlines our commitment to delivering market leading mobile automation.”  said Norio Wakabayashi, Toyota Industries Corporation senior executive officer.
