The American and Russian delegations will on April 10 hold their next meeting in Istanbul, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on April 8.
The meeting will be launched at 10h Istanbul time in Russia’s consulate, according to media reports.
Aleksandr Darchiev, who is expected to be appointed as Putin’s ambassador to Washington, will lead the Russian delegation, while US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sonata Coulter will lead the American delegation during the talks.
Second time in Istanbul
On February 18, a month after Donald Trump took over the White House, the parties held the first Ukraine ceasefire meeting in Saudi Arabia.
On February 27, they came together in Istanbul at the US consulates’ Bosphorus residency in Arnavutkoy district. They talked for about 6.5 hours.
On March 23, they were again in the Saudi capital Riyadh. They talked 12 hours during a three-day series of meetings.
Two negotiating teams from Ukraine and Russia met separately with their US counterparts to start setting the conditions for a permanent end to the Ukrainian hostilities.
Neither side gave away much information on what was talked about, but hinted that a lot of ground was covered in the two days of talks.
“After all, this is about technical talks,” Peskov said.
Full ceasefire still discussed
Meanwhile, On April 3, Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev was in Washington.
“An agreement has been reached to essentially refrain from strikes on energy infrastructure, which is certainly the first step of this kind in de-escalating the Ukrainian conflict,” he told reporters.
Agreeing on terms to bring a genuine and complete halt to hostilities for 30 days will remain under discussion in Istanbul.
