The unemployment level in Slovakia inched up to 3.88% in July, which is 0.10 percentage points lower year on year.

It also follows 3.80% in June and 3.78% in May, when the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family recorded the lowest value of the PDU, which it began using in January 2023.

The Country’s Centre for Labour, Social Affairs and Family highlighted that the slight July increase came as a result of “lower demand after seasonal workers” amid other factors. It also noted that the number of available jobs dropped by more than 4,000 month on month.

“A felt m/m drop in the number of available work postings suggests a gradual filling of the needs of the labour market,” Minister Erik Tomas commented, adding that requalification and additional education projects such as Zrucnost pre trh prace [Skill for labour market] is a response to “securing sufficient workforce for the economy.”

There were 168,466 job applicants registered with the country’s authorities, a slight increase m/m and a drop of nearly 6,000 y/y.
