Iran eyes wool processing ventures in Uzbekistan

By bnm Tehran bureau February 21, 2025

Iran plans to establish new manufacturing facilities in Uzbekistan's leather industry zones, the Uzbek news agency UzA reported on February 21.

Ties between the two sides continue to grow year-on-year despite trade and transit obstacles set up by Turkmenistan between the two larger economies.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between the chairman of the Uzcharmsanoat Association, Akhmad Sultanov, and an Iranian delegation led by Rahmatullah Khurmoli, Trade Counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in Uzbekistan.

“Iranian companies currently supply essential raw materials and components to Uzbekistan's leather industry,” the Iranian official said.

“We propose to implement projects for TEP granules and adhesive production in Uzbekistan's small industrial zones,” Khurmoli added.

The discussions also covered expanding bilateral trade relations and implementing joint investment projects in the leather industry sector.

Iranian officials highlighted wool processing as a particularly promising area for cooperation.

The Iranian delegation will participate in the UzCharmExpo-EurAsia-2025 exhibition in Tashkent this April.

Iran increased its quota for Uzbek companies at Iran Expo-2025 to 120 firms, demonstrating growing commercial ties between the two nations.
