Israel claimed the death of Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on September 28, while the Shi'ite group vowed to respond following his death. 

In an attack on September 27, Israeli forces targeted a Hezbollah command centre in Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to the Israeli military. The airstrike, allegedly carried out with precision intelligence from Israel’s Air Force and intelligence services, aimed at an underground facility where senior Hezbollah officials were reportedly meeting. Israel claimed that Ali Karaki, Hezbollah's southern front commander, was killed in the strike.

While Israel has asserted that Nasrallah may have been killed in the attack, Hezbollah has not yet issued a formal statement confirming or denying the claims, leaving the situation unclear. Earlier today, a source close to Hezbollah said that Nasrallah is alive, countering Israeli reports.

The Israeli army also took to social media platform X to amplify their claims, though these remain unverified in the absence of an official Hezbollah response. Meanwhile, a Lebanese security official told CNN, "We are waiting," when asked about Nasrallah's status.

Iran, a key ally of Hezbollah, has reacted swiftly to the airstrikes. Iran’s First Vice President condemned the attacks in a message to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, calling the strikes "blatant acts of aggression," with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying the resistance would continue its operations against Israel, in a statement on his website. 

​The Zionist criminals, he emphasized, are far too insignificant to inflict any meaningful damage on Hezbollah. "The entire regional resistance force stands with and supports Hezbollah...The future of the region," he said, "will be shaped by the forces of resistance, with Hezbollah proudly leading the way."

Tehran has further demonstrated its support by displaying banners featuring Nasrallah’s image across the capital. These banners, installed by Tehran’s municipality, underscore the symbolic significance of Nasrallah in the region, particularly within Iran’s alliance framework.

"It is incumbent upon all Muslims to stand with the Lebanese people and Hezbollah, offering their full support in the confrontation with the usurping, oppressive, and tyrannical Zionist regime."

Later on September 28, Lebanese media reported that Israeli forces had intercepted communications at Beirut’s airport, warning about the arrival of Iranian aircraft into Lebanon.

Following the Israeli warning, Lebanon’s Minister of Transport ordered Beirut’s airport to prevent the entry of the Iranian plane. The incident reflects Israel's ongoing concerns about Iran’s influence in Lebanon and its backing of Hezbollah.
