The United States has expressed a strong commitment to assisting Indonesia in advancing its digitization efforts. Indonesia's digital economy holds immense potential, with a projected value of $800bn, or approximately IDR12,097 trillion, Berita Satu reported.

This was conveyed by Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, after meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics office in Jakarta on September 26.

"Ambassador Kamala has conveyed the US government's commitment to supporting Indonesia in increasing investment in the digital sector," Budi Arie said.

The minister revealed that Indonesia's digital economy has significant potential, and by 2030, the digital economy in Indonesia is expected to reach $360bn.

This figure could rise even further if Indonesia optimally develops its artificial intelligence (AI) sector, which is projected to contribute $366bn by 2030. "Digitalisation is a tool for Indonesia to become a developed nation, making the dream of a Golden Indonesia 2045 a reality," he added.

Several key topics were discussed between the US Ambassador and the Minister, including data centre investments, undersea cables, satellites, and other telecommunications infrastructure. Cooperation is crucial, as Indonesia currently has a pressing need to enhance both the reach and quality of its internet services.

Additionally, the minister emphasised the importance of investing in human resource development. As Indonesia accelerates its digital transformation, it requires talent with strong technological expertise.
