The ruling Georgian Dream party currently retains 34% of voter support, according to a recent poll conducted by Edison Research, commissioned by the opposition TV channel Formula.

However, the combined ratings of opposition parties are significantly higher than that of the ruling Georgian Dream party. The poll also reveals that 71% of respondents believe another party should be given a chance in the  parliamentary elections next month.

When asked whom they would vote for if elections were held tomorrow, Georgian Dream leads with 34%, followed by a united opposition block consisting of the United National Movement, Strategy Aghmashenebeli and European Georgia with 19.2% support.

Former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s party For Georgia garners 10.6%, while the Strong Georgia coalition, including Lelo and other smaller parties, has 9.8%.

Opposition parties have been forming coalitions ahead of October's general election, prompted by moves by Georgian Dream to intimidate NGOs and independent media though the so-called "foreign agents law", which forces them to register as under foreign influence if they get more than 20% of their funding from abroad. However, they have been unable to form a united front, instead grouping in smaller coalitions.

The survey was conducted between August 29 and September 8, with 1,000 eligible voters across Georgia. The margin of error is +/- 2.5%. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for October 26.
