Turkey has blocked access to Roblox, the online gaming platform and game creation system hugely popular with children and teenagers around the world.

Jumping Jacks! BrickBattle!

Istanbul’s opposition party Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was quick to hit out at the ban, saying it was “inconceivable,” and adding: “Those who make these decisions are minds that are ignorant of the new world, economy, and technology.”

Newbs!

The August 7 move against Roblox and the country’s millions of Robloxians comes after last week’s blocking by Turkey of Instagram following a row over the claimed “censorship” of condolences posted for the slain leader of Palestinian militant group Hamas. In July, a Turkish court banned access to the story-sharing platform Wattpad following content complaints from conservative groups.

The blocking of Roblox, developed by American company the Roblox Corporation, was set in motion by an Adana court ruling that was then issued on the website of infotech regulator Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK).

State-run news provider Anadolu Agency reported that the ruling was based on "the detection of content that may lead to child abuse."

Roblox Corporation issued a statement on the situation to PocketGamer.biz., saying: “Our focus is always on safety and civility as we bring people together to build, learn, play and explore and we do this in a way that respects the laws and regulations where we operate.”

According to Esports.net, Turkey ranks fifth in the world for the number of people playing Roblox.

A social media user was quoted by Duvar as saying: “There were thousands of game developers in Turkey who developed games here [on Roblox]. These game developers were making a living from here and bringing foreign currency into the country.”

Those looking to restore Roblox could be in for SFOTH (Sword fights on the heights). It could be time to call in the Boosted ape.

Uuhhh (Roblox death sound).
