Uzbekistan records 84% y/y rise in medical tourist visits in 8M24

Around 74,700 foreign nationals sought medical treatment in Uzbekistan during the first eight months of 2024, marking an increase of 34,000 individuals, or 83.6%, year on year, according to the country's official statistics agency.

The surge in medical tourism has highlighted Uzbekistan's growing role as a regional healthcare hub, attracting patients from neighbouring countries and beyond with its medical facilities and treatment options.

The largest number of medical tourists hailed from neighbouring Tajikistan, with 57,380 Tajik citizens seeking healthcare services in Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan followed with 8,542 visitors, while Kyrgyzstan accounted for 6,704 individuals.

Russia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Afghanistan and other countries contributed smaller numbers, with 1,299, 672, 27 and 20 individuals, respectively.

An additional 84 visitors came from other nations.
