Uzbekistan welcomes 678,700 foreign visitors in January, up 30% y/y

Uzbekistan recorded 678,700 foreign visitors in January, with the figure marking a 30.5% y/y increase, according to the national statistics agency.

The largest share of visitors—461,277 people—arrived to visit relatives. 

Business travel accounted for 88,336 arrivals, while 75,392 tourists visited for leisure purposes. 

Trade and commerce activities brought in 41,196 foreign nationals, and 3,508 arrived for educational purposes.

Nearly 9,000 foreign visitors (8,966) came to Uzbekistan for medical treatment, opting to travel to the Central Asian country to seek affordable, high-quality care.

In 2024, Uzbekistan welcomed 8.2mn foreign visitors, with the volume up by 1.6mn from 2023. 

The country aims to attract as many as 12mn foreign visitors in 2025, including 1mn from Russia, compared to 870,000 in the previous year.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan became the 26th country to join the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), a UN Tourism initiative designed to safeguard tourist rights, particularly in emergencies.
