The death toll from Israel's overnight airstrikes on Iran has risen to four, according to Iran's Armed Forces, on October 26.

Earlier, the Iranian Army had announced the deaths of two of its forces in the Israeli attack, who lost their lives “while confronting the projectiles of the criminal Zionist regime to safeguard the security of Iran and prevent harm to the Iranian nation and interests,” Iran's state Press TV reported.

Several loud explosions were heard across Tehran and near Karaj early on October 26, waking residents across the Iranian capital region. State media reported that the explosions were causing panic among several communities in the country and expatriates abroad.

Iranian state media has confirmed at least five explosions around Tehran and to the north near Karaj, though the cause of the blasts remains unclear. The comments were followed by Israeli officials who confirmed the strike.

Initial reports by Fars News Agency revealed that some military bases in western and southwestern Tehran were targeted in an attack attributed to Israel.

"In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel – right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran," IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said in an X.com video.

"The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th – on seven fronts – including direct attacks from Iranian soil," it later added in a press release on Telegram messenger.

IntelliNews correspondents in the Iranian capital confirmed at least six loud blasts reportedly coming from the city's main international airport, Imam Khomeini Airport.

Secondary reports suggest loud blasts were heard from the west of the city towards the older Mehrabad airport. Multiple residents reported hearing successive blasts throughout parts of both cities.

Irnaian officials have yet to make a formal announcement of the strikes, however, national television acknowledged to strikes on its IRNNN channel.

There is no word yet about potential damage or casualties, and no official statement has been released about the source of the explosions.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent exchanges between Iran and Israel.
