The Russian Embassy in Tehran has advised its nationals to temporarily refrain from travelling to the country, citing rising tensions in the Middle East following recent escalations between Iran and Israel, it announced on its Telegram channel on October 2.

The advisory came after Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on Israel on October 1, killing at least one person in the West Bank when a rocket went off course and hit a Palestinian area. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a firm response to the more than 180 hypersonic missiles that hit the country.

"Due to the worsening situation around Iran, the Russian Embassy recommends that citizens of the Russian Federation temporarily refrain from travelling to the Islamic Republic of Iran until the situation normalizes," the message said

During the Iranian missile barrage, several Russian planes were redirected, including an aircraft carrying Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev.

Their plane, initially headed for Doha, Qatar, landed instead at Mineralnye Vody, Russia, due to security concerns, RBK Group reported on October 2.

The Russian Embassy in Israel also warned its dual citizens of the threat of ongoing missile strikes but stopped short of telling people not to travel to the country.

"Due to the threat to the safety of the flight of civilian aircraft in Israeli airspace, Russian Aviation recommended Russian airlines to refrain from flying to/from airports and in the country's airspace until a special order," the embassy wrote on October 1.

In the wake of the strikes, Israeli officials warned that Iran would pay for the assault, while Tehran vowed to respond to any future Israeli actions.

These developments have led to widespread disruptions in the aviation sector, with Iran restricting flights over its airspace until October 3 morning.

According to the latest information from Moscow, the Federal Agency for Air Transport of Russia, Rosaviatsia, advised Russian airlines to avoid flights to Iran, Iraq, and Israel, with specific time windows suggested for safe travel on 2-3 October.

Aeroflot has already cancelled two scheduled flights to and from Iran in response to the heightened tensions.
