Serbia will open a Tesla Venture Studio in January 2024, a startup “factory” aimed at fostering innovation, Marko Cadez, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (PKS), announced at the Web Summit in Lisbon on November 13.

The studio seeks to position Belgrade as a regional centre for entrepreneurship and start-up growth. Cadez highlighted Serbia’s robust start-up sector, noting that local companies are increasingly contributing breakthrough technologies to global markets across sectors like automotive and information technology.

“Much has changed in Serbia over the past 10 years,” Cadez said, pointing to achievements such as Microsoft’s AI Azure, developed in Belgrade, and advanced camera systems for major automotive brands like Volvo, produced by Novi Sad-based RT-RK.

Katarina Galic, founder and CEO of XIergy SusTech Powerhouse, underscored the studio’s ambition to make Belgrade a leading hub for start-ups. “Serbia has many talented engineers, and we see the potential and opportunity to establish a venture studio here,” she said.

Joining the Tesla Venture Studio team is Antonia Norman, former CEO of Virgin Unite Africa, who praised Serbia’s unique entrepreneurial energy. “I’ve had the privilege of working with start-ups globally, from Africa and the US to Amsterdam and Turkey, but the energy I see in Serbia for startups is truly unique.”
