Consumer price indices (inflation) in Slovakia increased by 3.2% year on year and by 0.2% month on month in November.

Inflation accelerated slightly on the 3.1% y/y growth in October and was the third highest this year amid a continued rise in food prices. The m/m rate is a slowdown on the 0.7% m/m growth in October.

“Consumer prices were higher m/m mainly due to the growth of food and transport prices,” the country’s statisticians highlighted.

All the twelve monitored sectors registered a y/y growth, including a 4.7% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverages, with almost 25% growth in the prices of oils and fats, and over 12% growth in the prices of fruits. Increases in prices of milk, cheese and eggs, vegetables, sugar and confectionery ranged from 5-7%. Bread and cereal prices went up by 2.5% and meat prices stayed the same.

Housing and energy prices increased by 1% y/y, while the prices in the transportation sector when prices of fuel dropped by 6.2%, but the prices in transportation services went up by 17%.

In m/m development, prices of food increased by 0.6%, and prices of fuel were up by 0.9% after these were declining in previous months. Prices in the housing and energy sector increased by 0.1%.

From January to November, consumer prices grew by 2.8% y/y.
