Trendyol, Turkey's largest e-commerce platform majority-owned by Chinese tech giant Alibaba, has established a regional logistics centre in Romania to serve Southeast European markets.
Trendyol entered the Romanian market earlier this year, and has chosen the country as the site of its second European logistics centre after Poland. The move is part of the company’s ambitions to strengthen its position in Southeast Europe’s burgeoning e-commerce market.
The facility, spanning 20,000 square metres, is located in the WDP Ștefăneștii de Jos logistics park, north of Bucharest.
The space was subleased from logistics services company XPO, which repurposed surplus capacity initially allocated to Polish online retailer Modivo, according to Profit. Trendyol representatives have not commented on the development.
Poland's CCC Group, the largest footwear retailer in Poland, recently expanded its operations in the WDP Ștefăneștii de Jos logistics park to over 50,000 square metres, supporting its online stores ePantofi and Modivo. The park itself spans 280,000 square metres and hosts major tenants, including Metro, Auchan and LPP, with WDP as the project developer.
Founded in Istanbul in 2010, Trendyol has grown into Turkey’s first decacorn (a start-up valued at over $10bn) and a globally recognised e-commerce leader. Alibaba holds a 76% stake in the company, while other shareholders include SoftBank Group, General Atlantic, the Qatar Investment Authority, and Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, ADQ.
