Consumer prices in Bulgaria rose by 1.2% in September 2024 compared to the same period last year (chart), according to preliminary National Statistical Institute (NSI) data. Month on month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 1%.

Consumer prices, which stood at 4.7% in December 2023, continued their decline throughout 2024. A year earlier, in September 2023, annual CPI inflation was 6.2%.

The fastest annual increase in prices was for restaurants and hotels, which rose by 7.2%. The prices for education moved up by 6.1%, followed by alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.6%) and other goods and services (3.5%).

In contrast, communications experienced a downturn, with prices dropping by 4.4%, while clothing prices decreased by 0.32% year on year.

The inflation rate since the beginning of the year as compared to end-2023 was 0.1%.

The NSI's data on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showed a 1.1% monthly decrease and a 1.5% annual inflation rate.
