Lebanon's Hezbollah militia claimed responsibility for a drone attack on an Israeli military base in Upper Galilee on September 6, stating the strike resulted in deaths and injuries among Israeli forces.

The Shi'ite group said in a statement on its official Telegram channel that its "Islamic Resistance" units deployed kamikaze drones to target an enemy base near Kibbutz Ma'ayan Baruch. "The precise hit resulted in deaths and injuries in enemy ranks," the statement read.

Hezbollah described the operation as retaliation for recent Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon.

“Overnight, the IAF struck a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in the area of Blida in southern Lebanon”, the IDF wrote on its Telegram channel, the force has not confirmed the Lebanese strike on its territory however.

In addition to the drone attack, the militant group reported launching anti-tank guided missiles at Israeli Defence Forces positions near Kiryat Shmona, a town 2.5 km from the Lebanese border. One building reportedly caught fire as a result.

The group also claimed to have fired rockets at Avivim in Western Galilee, allegedly striking a military installation.

These attacks mark a significant escalation in cross-border violence between Hezbollah and Israel, which has been ongoing since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza last October.

Lebanon's Al Jadeed TV reported that Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes on a Hezbollah outpost in the border town of Maroun al-Ras earlier in the day. Details of the damage from this strike were not immediately available.

The recent surge in hostilities raises concerns about a potential wider regional conflict, as international mediators continue efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.
