Uzbek export cargo processed by Georgian ports grew by 72% in 2022

Uzbekistan last year expanded its volume of cargo sent through Georgian ports by 72% from 503,000 tonnes to 864,000 tonnes, according to the Uzbek transport ministry.

The eyecatching statistic was provided during an official visit paid by an Uzbek government delegation to Georgia this week. During the visit, Uzbekistan's Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov and Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili signed a memorandum of understanding covering the field of transport.

The document provides for the construction or long-term leasing of Georgian Black Sea terminals and port warehouses. The two sides also aim to cooperate in civil aviation and road transport.

Uzbek export cargo processed in Georgia for Black Sea transit is dealt with at the ports of Poti and Batumi.
