Iran warns Israel of obliterating war upon aggression on Lebanon

Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations has warned Israel that an "obliterating war" would ensue in case it embarks on a full-scale military aggression on Lebanon.

It said on its X account on June 29 that Iran deems Israel's propaganda about attacking Lebanon as "psychological warfare". Still, it cautioned that all options, including the full involvement of all resistance fronts, are on the table.

Recent weeks have seen an escalation in clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, which has raised concerns about the possibility of a full-scale war. Saudi Arabia and several other countries have warned their citizens of increased risks and asked them to vacate the country with immediate effect.

The Israeli military has stated its readiness for an all-out war with Lebanon, while Hezbollah has intensified its strikes against Israeli targets.

The Israelis have begun taking risk assessments of potential damage if the conflagration heats up further in the coming days, with military and utilities factoring repair costs moving forward.

High-ranking diplomats from Western countries have made trips to Jerusalem and Beirut recently to negotiate a diplomatic agreement that would result in Hezbollah militants withdrawing from the border area near Israel.

Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza since October 7 has prompted other Iran-backed militia groups in the region, including in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, to mobilise their forces against the Jewish state.

Iran has warned that all these militant groups, which it describes as the resistance front, will be collectively involved in the fight if an aggression occurs against Hezbollah.

Tehran and Tel Aviv went close to a direct war in mid-April when Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles against Israeli territories from its soil in response to the bombing of its embassy compound in Syria.

Since then, Israeli attacks and bombardments have killed more than 37,700 people in Gaza, according to the local health ministry, following the October 7 attack by Hamas, killing 1,200 Israelis, Palestinians and Filipino workers.
